Dear friends,
I figured I owe you all a running log of this weekend's dates, so here we go:
I just got back from my blind date with the Handsome Canadian, who was quite different from what I expected. From the pics, I expected a smokin' hot ladies' man. In real life he's quite adorable (though sadly missing the longish curly brown hair from the photos!) and very clean-cut, wearing a skinny black tie, white shirt, jacket, jeans. He is dry, funny, and very smart. Initially, he was also kinda awkward (in a nice way) and much less smooth than I imagined (which made me relieved.) It took us about 10 minutes to get rolling, but once we did the conversation was pretty much non-stop. I laughed a lot, he laughed a lot, and I think we generally delighted each other. While it was a long 3-hour dinner, the time flew by. Well done once again on the set-up, Willa. Mission accomplished.
And, the food was good (which always helps!) and the dessert OUT OF THIS WORLD: a molten chocolate cake with vanilla gelato, so light and meltingly chocolaty-soft that I was once again reminded of why this is my favorite dessert of all time. Before I knew it, our dessert plate had been cleared and we were gathering ourselves to retrieve our respective Priuses (is that Prii?) from the valet. Handsome Canadian's Prius came first, and after he paid the valet, he came 'round his car, shed all vestiges of awkwardness, and kissed me. (In the middle of the parking lot! In front of the whole line of people waiting for their cars!) It was a nice kiss (GREAT lips on him) and a long moment followed; then the slow, magnetic pull brought us together again, and a lingering second kiss followed. The he hopped into his Prius and drove off (there was a line of cars waiting!) Mine arrived, I got into my Prius, and drove off, too. We're SO LA.
So that was the evening: I give it a good 8.5 out of 10 (cute date, great food, nice kiss at the end.)
But as Scarlett O'Hara once said, "Tomorrow is another day." Ain't that the truth. I gotta hit the sack now, because I have two more dates this weekend and I need some beauty sleep!
Next up: the Dentist, the hike, the Saturday night date. I think he's in it to win it. We'll see if I'm right! Stay tuned, dear friends...
Hasta manana,
Foodie Gal
