Teacher's Pet

Couldn't resist the update...apparently the inscrutable Professor *was* feelin' me (at least a little) because we're having fancy cocktails together this weekend at some swanky bar downtown.

I may need to loosen him up a little bit...but if anyone's up for the job, it's me. (ME-OW.)

In food news, I had the most fantastic salad last night (and as we know, I really don't like salad all that much.) It was gem lettuce and fuyu persimmon (the firm kind, not the pudding-soft kind) with toasted hazelnuts and a creamy, lemony, garlicky dressing. It was just phenomenal-the gem lettuce is my favorite lettuce of all time (similar to Boston lettuce or butter lettuce, but crisper with more body) and the dressing made my mouth water. I love a lot of acidity in almost everything (men excepted): guacamole, salad dressing, pasta...I will squirt lemon on anything that will stand still long enough. So this salad was right up my alley. It was followed by a tender braised duck, over kale mashed potatoes (yes, please.) What a delight!

Anyway, two delicious surprises: an interested Professor, and a truly delectable salad. I'll let you know after this weekend whether the Professor is delectable, too...
